BONES AND SKELETON
Our skeleton is a framework of hard rigid pieces called bones. The bones of our skeleton are held together by connections called joints.
  • The skeleton consists of 206 bones of various types:
    • Long bones, like the femur.
    • Flat bones, like the scapula.
    • Short bones, like the vertebrae.
  • The groups of bones.
    • The vertebrae are a group of small bones that form the spine. The spine supports the whole skeleton.
    • The group of flatbones that form the skull protect your brain.
    • The rib cage protects the organs in the trunk.
  • The joints. There are two types.
    • Some joints allow the bones to move, like the elbow.
    • Others don’t allow the bones to move, like those in the skull.
