SIMPLE MACHINES

 

 

TECHNOLOGY AND MACHINES
Technology is the group of methods and processes used in the production of tools to help and simplify some works.

A machine is a tool containing one or more parts that uses energy to perform a specific action.

We can find:

• Machines that use mechanical energy to set a force or body in motion: muscles, animals, wind…

• Machines that use electrical energy: bulbs, appliances, generators…

• Machines that use other forms of energy: combustion engines, solar panels…

A component is an element that performs a function in a machine. We can find:

• Simple machines: they have a few components. Scissors, wheelbarrow…

• Compound machines: they have a lot of components. Cars, planes…

COMPLEX MACHINES

More complicated machines (sometimes called Compound or Complex Machines) have two or more simple machines working together to do the same work.

• A wheelbarrow is one example of a compound machine because it has levers (the handles) and a wheel.
